Timing of 529 Plan Withdrawals

Eventually, parents with a 529 plan will want to take a distribution to
pay for college. When they do, they need to know they must take all
withdrawals from college savings plans in the same tax year in which
they pay the qualifying expenses, or they could incur a penalty and be
taxed on the withdrawal.
